Mathematics Department Initiative
During the decade of the 2010s MBHS produced excellent results in CSEC Mathematics, peaking in 2018 when the school achieved a pass rate in excess of 90% .
However in the last few years the combined impact of COVID, teacher shortages and other social and technical challenges have resulted in a regression in the performance of our students.
Starting in 2022 the MBHSAA took on the task of retooling the Mathematics Department, providing learning resources required to support students' preparation for CSEC Math exams and to promote a deeper understanding of abstract mathematical concepts .
This initiative has now been developed into a more holistic and data-driven program which will be tracked and reviewed over the next 5 years.
Through this initiative we have provided funding and essential resources required for both classroom instruction and self-learning, and provided support for workshops and incentive programs.
Items delivered to date include:
Laptops
Projectors
Geometry Sets
100+ Calculators
Printing supplies
Math Manipulatives
Motivational Awards
The primary goal is to improve the CSEC pass rate in Mathematics to at least 80% by 2027. You can read more about this and other objectives in our Project Charter.
Please support us in accomplishing this critical mission for our students, our school and the parish of St Thomas.
